Potential Function Upgrade

A-16 Chip:

The major difference between the pro and non-pro 14 iPhones would be the change in use of bionic chips. The iPhone 14 pro and pro max models will use the new and faster A-16 chip, whereas the non-pro iPhone 14 will continue to use the same chip as iPhone 13 which is the A-15 bionic chip. According to reports, the A16 processor for the iPhone 14 Pro versions will be constructed on TSMC's "NP4" process, which is the company's third massive update of the 5-nanometer family.

RAM:

If we talk about the RAM offered in the iPhone 14 models, then it is the same as the one featured in iPhone 13 models, which was 6GB RAM.

Car Crash Detection:

Apple has been working on its latest feature of car crash detection. There are chances that Apple releases this new feature in its 2022 models of iPhone and Apple watch. It will employ accelerometers and other sensors to detect car crashes by sensing a rise in gravitational force. If the iPhone or the Apple watch detects a car crash, it will automatically dial emergency numbers to get immediate help.

This new feature was set out to be released in 2022, so there is a chance that iPhone 14 and the Apple watch Series 8 might be equipped with this new feature. Just to mention here that this wouldn’t be limited to these models only, rather it would be an expansion to other Apple products as well.

Snapdragon X65 Modem:

The Qualcomm Snapdragon X65 modem, which seems to be the globe's first 10 Gigabit 5G modem and antenna system for iPhones, will be used in the iPhone 14 models. It will also come with an RF Chip, satellite connectivity, and Wi-Fi 6E connectivity. Rumors also suggest an upgradation to 2 TB storage from 1 TB, but sources still need to confirm this yet.

RF Chip:

According to Taiwan's Economic Daily News, Apple has bought 5G radio frequency (RF) chips from TSMC, with Apple through its own expertise rather than Samsung's.

The chips are said to be made using TSMC's 6-nanometer process that allows for a compact package and reduced power consumption. This could result in longer battery life and compatibility for Wi-Fi 6E while using 5G technology.

Wi-Fi 6E connectivity:

As said by Apple expert Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone 14 will have Wi-Fi 6E connection. Wi-Fi 6E, according to Kuo, will provide the increased wireless transmissions required for AR and VR experiences, and it will also be used in an immersive 3d headgear that might be released in 2022.

Wi-Fi 6E uses the 6GHz frequency in conjunction to the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies to enhance bandwidth and reduce interference whilst also providing the speed gain and reduced latency that the Wi-Fi 6 standard provides.

Satellite Connectivity:

In a report from Bloomberg, the Qualcomm Snapdragon X65 supports certain satellite connectivity features, and Apple wants to deploy satellite-based emergency functionalities with the modem, allowing users to transmit messages in emergency circumstances and notify significant incidents in places where cellular coverage is not available.

Potential Design Upgrade

One of the vital changes which can be expected in the iPhone 14 models is the removal of the notch cutout. The notch cutout might be replaced by a punch-hole design. Apple analyst Ming Chi Kuo says that if the Apple prototyping and production go as planned, then this feature will come to life. As of now, the company has decided to include this new look only in pro and pro max iPhone 14 models. If the production yield goals surpasses, then this might become a part of iPhone 14 as well, otherwise it will retain the notch cutout look.

Now the question arises, if the notch cutout will be replaced by a punch-hole designs, what will happen to all the sensors which resided in the notch previously? They won’t be able to fit in the punch-hole design. What will be the future of the face detection sensor? Would it end up like other android designs where the punch-hole design at the top is followed by touch ID at the bottom of the screen?

However, another Apple analyst Ross Young provided a bit more details to this current change, specifying that there will be a combination of pill-design and punch-hole, 2-hole design, which would efficiently fit in all the technological components mentioned above.

Ming Chi Kuo also specified that the touch ID feature will be further delayed to 2023 and would not be included in the 2022 model of iPhone.

Another important feature of the iPhone 14 models would be the complete removal of camera bumps. In previous iPhones, the camera bump existed due to the lesser thickness of the phones. Prosser clarifies that the camera bumps will be removed because they will be making iPhone 14 model itself thicker, which will help them eliminate camera bumps completely.

Potential Specs Upgrade

Camera:

Major upgrade would be seen in the camera of iPhone 14 models, especially in the front facing camera. Front camera will be equipped with the auto-focus feature. Overall the rear camera will be upgraded to 48 megapixels from the 12 megapixels in iPhone 12. Ming Chi Kuo also revealed that the video camera system in the iPhone 14 models would be using 8K recording for the very first time in the history of iPhones.

Screen sizes:

Coming towards the screen sizes, iPhone 14 will not be including its mini version like those in iPhone 12 and 13 models. In its place, Kuo mention that there will be 4 iPhones,

The reason for Apple to not include the mini version (5.4 inches) in iPhone 14 models is because according to previous reports, they were not sold as Apple had initially expected.

Port or no port?

In 2021, there were several rumors which suggested that the new iPhone will be completely wireless without any charging port. However, that did not come to fruition that year. Presently, it is highly expected that the new iPhone 14 model (pro and pro max only) would be completely port less supporting the MagSafe technology.

Chip and Speed:
